More work on the table

Today started out with attaching the table slides to the bottom of the table top. I purchased the slides rather than building them myself because they are inexpensive, solid, precision slides that I’d probably have a hard time building as well. This picture shows the underside of the table with the slides attached.

Table Slides

The slides are very solid. I was a bit worried, but after attaching them and extending the table a full 5′ the slides were very stiff. After attaching the slides I put in 4 sets of brass pins between the two halves to align them. Next began the construction of the 3 leaves that will add 4 feet to the length of the table, taking it to 11′ overall. One leaf is 12″, the other two are 18″. All the parts are rough cut and ready to glue up.

Table Top Leaves

You can see the three leaves laid on top of the table. I won’t get to glue them up till next weekend since I’ll be attending EclipseCon this week. After the leaves are built and mated to the table top, then I can start thinking about what kind of legs I want to build, then the skirt, and then the extensions the will attach to each end of the table.
